On the Big Lake

Big Trout Lake, located 520 km north of Thunder Bay, Ontario, is one of the largest lakes in northwestern Ontario.  The natives call it Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug, or KI for short. In the early 60s, it was a community of perhaps 300 people.  The population of Big Trout Lake was 1,322 residents in January of 2007, making it one of the largest First Nations communities in the region.
